San Jose Sharks Hockey Puck Birthday Cake Oh-No 5-0!

Ken just turned the big 5-0! Everyone was excited for my old manager, but he seemed to be surprised that everyone was making a big fuss over this landmark birthday. Over the course of a few days, he was taken out to a few meals, they brought balloons and cookies, and I was glad to show him what we’ve been doing at the bakery with his own Sharks puck cake.

He knew I’d come and bring a cake, but he wasn’t expecting a fondant decorated cake. He’s a huge San Jose Sharks hockey fan that’s had season tickets for years, so we had to make this for him. When he saw the cake he just stared and said “Well now we can’t cut into the cake” with a huge grin on his face. But with Mexican chocolate cake and Mexican chocolate buttercream under the fondant, I knew he couldn’t resist a slice.

It would have been so cool if the Sharks would have scored 5 in a blowout at the game that night, but at least they had a home game that Ken went to with some family and friends.

Happy Birthday Ken!

Martini Question Mark Birthday Cake Close-Up

My great grandma was not happy that since there was a hill between our houses that she was sometimes referred to as “grandma over the hill”. As a kid I just didn’t understand how each year my birthday was celebrated with a new numbered candle, but it was not polite for me to ask my grandma’s age.

Now I get it. Our cake artist, Amy, is about to hit a landmark year, and she wants to celebrate to lessen the sting of the big 4-Oh. That comes in March but I’m already thinking about what to do.

I love what Jennifer imagined for Lisa’s birthday. Last year Jennifer came up with the idea for a car from the 1950s to celebrate a 60th birthday. For Lisa’s birthday she wanted a pink and black cake with martini glasses, a question mark topper, and this great message, “30 again? Happy Birthday Lisa!”

Especially when you can’t say the number, you friends will let you know that THEY know. That’s what friends are for, right? Happy Birthday Lisa!
