Tough Mudder Fundraising Party Benefiting our Wounded Warriors!

September 10th, 2010

Proud Supporter of The Wounded Warrior Project

This Saturday is the Tough Mudder fundraising party at the Cardiff Lounge benefiting the Wounded Warriors Project. I’ve been following my friend Denise’s incredible training for the Tough Mudder event in October. This is no ordinary race and the training she’s doing is just crazy! Here’s how they describe the Tough Mudder event on their website:

Tough Mudder is the TOUGHEST one day event on the planet. This is not your average mud run or boring, spirit-crushing road race. It’s Ironman meets Burning Man: our 7-12 mile obstacle courses are designed by British Special Forces to test all around toughness, strength, stamina, fitness, camaraderie, and mental grit. Forget about your finish time. This is about camaraderie, teamwork, and helping your fellow Mudders. Simply completing the event is a badge of honor. Not everyone will finish, but those who do make it to our post-event party will have truly earned the right to call themselves a Tough Mudder. All Tough Mudder sponsorship proceeds go to our exclusive charity partner, The Wounded Warrior Project.

I take my dog for leisurely walks every day. I would never even pretend to be able to do something like that! But we were just invited to donate a cake to the help “ASD Wolfpack“, Denise’s team, that’s tackling the challenge and hosting a fundraising party at the Cardiff Lounge this Saturday. Baking and decorating is the challenge we’re up for. And you could bid on a $195 gift certificate towards one of our cakes. Some of the other auction items include massages, wine, Sharks tickets, signed NFL memorabilia, and so much more.

Tough Mudder Flyer

The fundraising party sounds like a fun even with music, dancing, the silent auction, and special drinks for the occasion with proceeds going directly to the Wounded Warrior Project. So head to the Cardiff Lounge in Campbell on Saturday, September 11th from 6-8 pm. As the poster says, “Are you tough enough to party?”

Gyruss Arcade Game 40th Birthday Cake

September 9th, 2010

Gyruss Video Arcade Game 40th Birthday Cake

I have so many fond memories of going to arcades in the ’80s playing the cool games as they came out. And what’s Rich’s favorite? Gyruss! I brought the Gyruss cake to Rich’s party and heard the guys also remembering their love of the arcades, debating the significance of Gyruss and other breakthrough video games. Was that the first one to come out with stereo sound? I could say that even contemplating things like new stereo sound makes me feel old (I hear that from so many of my friends) but I’d rather say we’ve come a long way, baby.

Kids today are playing Zombie Farm on their iPads, but if you want to make a new 40-years-old feel young again, you’ve gotta break out the old school arcade games. We’re as young as we feel, right?

Happy Birthday, Rich!

Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger 5th Birthday Cake

September 3rd, 2010

Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Sitting 5th Birthday Cake Nicholas

Nicholas celebrated his 5th birthday party at Danny the Dragon’s Picnic Place. Walking to the back of the park, we passed so many families with kids excited to see Buzz Lightyear and parents taking pictures. Many asked, “Is that a cake?” Yes, under the fondant was Devil’s Food cake with Vanilla Bean Buttercream.

It was so cute when after we place Buzz on the table, Nicholas was right at eye level to see his name on the sole of Buzz’s shoe (where Andy writes his name to claim his toys in the movie). Nicholas looked right to his friend to say “That’s my cake!” That’s right, Buzz came just for you Nicholas.

We’re still playing with the cool Flip that TLC gave us. Check out the cool laser light action on the cake.

Happy Birthday Space Ranger Nicholas!

Your 3 Clicks Give $500,000 to Trace Elementary School

September 2nd, 2010

So many families were crushed when they heard about the 5-alarm fire that burned a few buildings at our local Merritt Trace Elementary School during the summer. With just a few clicks on Facebook and a mere minute of your time, you can vote to have Kohl’s give $500,000 to the school. You even get 5 votes that you can give this one school. What a powerful way to start your morning, right? I sincerely appreciate your efforts to help our school.

Thanks!

Princess Tiana Birthday Cake

August 20th, 2010

There was so much excitement when Disney unveiled their newest princess in the movie “The Princess and the Frog”. Even though I’m not the girliest girl, I still wanted to see what kind of adventure Princess Tiana would have. It is a Disney movie after all, and they know how to tell a good story.

Princess Tiana Birthday Cake

Tammy sent us a photo of the beautiful princess for Khaliyah’s birthday and Amy made a spectacular cake. Tammy was so impressed with the pregnant belly cake she ordered for a baby shower that she couldn’t help hugging Amy. When I saw the cake I knew that Amy again earned a hug for this one, and a thrilled Tammy did just that. That’s not a requirement when you get your cake, but I could tell by Amy’s shy smile that she was pleased to make Tammy so happy.

Thank you Tammy for your great appreciation! And Happy Birthday Khaliyah!

The Twilight Saga Tiered 12th Birthday Cake

August 18th, 2010

The Twilight Saga Tiered 12th Birthday Cake

Have you been bitten by the Twilight bug? I have friends that have read all the books and seen the midnight showings of all the movies. Twilight fans are real superfans, wildly excited when they talk about everything Twilight.

The Twilight Saga Tiered 12th Birthday Cake at the Party

I would have loved seeing all the girls howling over Hailey’s 12th birthday party. They had Edward and Jacob life size cutouts, Twilight Sweethearts candy, Team Edward and Team Jacob pops, and of course, the Twilight cake. You’ll recognize elements of the book covers represented on the cake, except Hailey wanted the picture of Edward and Bella instead of the apple. The sight of Edward and Bella makes up for the missing apple, right?

The Twilight Saga Tiered 12th Birthday Cake with Twilight Props

You know we appreciate receiving these notes after the party from Hailey and her mom:

“I loved my cake and my friends could believe how talented you are ! Thanks for making my 12 th birthday so so special and perfect ! Hugs, Hailey”

“The girls loved the twilight cake ! It was perfect !”

The party looked amazing, totally Twilight. Happy Birthday Hailey!

The Incredible Shrinking Man 40th Birthday Cake

August 3rd, 2010

The Incredible Shrinking Man 40th Birthday Cake

I was thrilled we made the cake for my good friend’s 40th birthday party. In Keen’s 39th year he dropped more than a third of his weight! I’ve been calling him “The Incredible Shrinking Man” and I’m probably not the only one because his wife decided that was the perfect design for his cake. He knows that he’s just like the commercials you’ve seen where the man says “I’m 40 and in the best shape of my life.” He has so much to be proud of and he was happy to tell everyone about his success story at his surprise party. He’s even lost a few pounds too many so he could enjoy all the great food that his family made and a slice of his cake–lemon cake with raspberry filling and lemon buttercream. After all of the dieting and faithful exercising, I’m glad he was able to cut loose and enjoy himself at his party.

Happy Birthday Keen! 40 years in and you look great!

Martini 21st Birthday Cake

July 23rd, 2010

Martini 21st Birthday Cake

I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t this sophisticated when I turned 21. Jordan celebrated 21 in style with this fun Martini topsy-turvy tiered cake designed like the invitations to the party with artistic martini glasses, diamonds, hearts, and red and yellow baubles.

Happy Birthday Jordan!
